  • Oblique Strategies (2019)

Andrei Ioniță draws together some of the greatest music ever written for solo cello. In this album, Ioniță gives the world-premiere recording of Australian composer Brett Dean's 11 Oblique Strategies, from which the album takes it's name. Dean's work was inspired by the Oblique Strategy cards invented by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt to spark creativity. In J.S. Bach's exquisite Cello Suite No.1 a sense of harmony is created using a single melodic line, with mesmerising results. Kodály's pioneering Sonata (1915) is another giant of the solo cello repertoire, and the album concludes with Black Run (2001) by contemporary Swedish polymath Svante Henryson.

  • Mélodies Infinies (2024)

Gabriel Fauré’s Piano Quartet in C minor was one of the first of its kind in France and was composed in the spirit of the “Ars Gallica” to strengthen French music against German cultural dominance. However, Fauré could not entirely escape the influence of Brahms, and both he and his student George Enescu share, in the melancholic complexity of expression in these chamber music masterpieces, a spiritual closeness to German late Romanticism. The monumental first movement of Enescu’s First Piano Quartet contrasts with the rhythmic drive of the final movement in a work that combines French Impressionism with the unmistakable folk musical characteristics of his homeland, Romania.

  • Ernst von Dohnányi Concertos (2022)

In this CD featuring Dohnanyi’s concerti, Andrei plays Concert Piece in D Major, Op. 12 for Cello & Orchestra with Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz.

Interestingly, Dohnányi avoids the conventional term “concerto” in the naming of the works, opting instead for Variations (for piano and orchestra), Concertino (for harp and chamber orchestra), and Konzertstück (for cello and orchestra). These titles subtly reflect the unique character and individuality of each work.

  • Boris Papandopulo: chamber music for strings and piano (2021)

In this album, we can hear Andrei play alongside Amaury Coeytaux (violin) Vanessa Szigeti (violin), & Oliver Triendl (piano), featuring Croatian composer, Boris Papandopulo. Chamber works are explored such as the Concertino in antico modo op. 56 for 2 violins, cello and piano; Fantasy for violin and piano; Piano trio ‘Lyrisches Trio’; Rapsodia concertante for cello and piano; as well as 3 musical movements for Orlando for piano trio.

  • Brahms: Complete Clarinet Sonatas & Trio (2018)

The most notable element that brings together Pablo Barragan, Juan P. Floristan, and Andrei Ioniță is their shared vision of the communicative power of chamber music, its ability to inspire and transform, and its importance to their professional and personal development.
